8th Wall is a web-based augmented reality platform for smartphones.
8th Wall was previously a commercial platform but has shut down.
In January 2026, the 8th Wall team released a Distributed Engine Binary, which includes simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) under a license for commercial and noncommercial use.[1]
The XR Engine[edit]
The SLAM engine is distributed as WebAssembly created with Emscripten. The code itself uses WebGL to render.
