Akonia Holographics was an American company that made holographic technology.

They were bought by Apple.[1]

Its website was www.akoniaholographics.com.[2]

Akonia pivoted to augmented reality after Magic Leap's massive funding round. In early 2016, it was reported that Magic Leap had secured a massive 800 million dollar funding round.[3][4] After this, Akonia Holographics pivoted to also supporting the augmented reality market. Up through October 2016, Akonia was just advertising holographic data storage on their website.[5] However, by December 2016, they were advertising holographic smart glasses, augmented reality, including reflective and waveguide-based holographic display elements.[6]

They advertised a technology called HoloMirror, which they claimed used a proprietary volume holographic media to enable thin, transparent smart glasses displays that could display full color images.[6]

Akonia Holographics was founded by Ken Anderson, Mark Ayres and Fred Askham.[7]

Akonia was founded after the bankruptcy of InPhase Technologies.[7]
