From the perspective of human-computer interaction, an input device is an electronic device that can be used to control movement in a virtual space in a computer system. An example is a VR controller like a Valve Index controller.
Another example is an electromagnetic 3D tracking system, such as systems made by Ascension.
In a visual HCI loop, it is complemented by a visual peripheral, basically a display.
