Direct 3D manipulation is when a user can reach out with his hand and touch a virtual 3D object. It is enabled by 3D control peripherals and 3D visual peripherals.

3D direct manipulation can generally happen via hand tracking or with some types of 3D pens.

Devices[edit]

A Leap Motion Controller can be used for direct manipulation.

A haptic peripheral like a Geomagic Touch can be used.

A Polhemus Liberty or other electromagnetic tracking system can be used.
