Flock of Birds is an electromagnetic tracking system from Ascension.[1]
It uses DC electromagnetic tracking.[2][3] The Flock of Birds system was the earliest popular commercial system to use DC electromagnetic tracking, and in this sense, it is pioneering.
Its update rate is up to 144 hertz. It is a 6DOF tracking system, meaning it tracks position and orientation. It supports between 1 and 4 sensors. Its tracking range is about 4 feet. Its positional accuracy is down to 0.07 inches. Its rotational accuracy is 0.5 degrees.[4]
It was originally developed for use as a head-tracking device in military applications.[3]
The Flock of Birds uses a three-axis fluxgate magnetometer as the sensor.[3]
