Leap Motion was a software company that made 3D tracking controllers. It became absorbed into UltraLeap. It is the company that made the Leap Motion Controller, which is a USB hand tracking camera.

The Leap Motion Controller was advertised to enable the user to control a computer in three dimensions with natural hand and finger movements.[1]

The Leap Motion Controller was originally just called the Leap.[2]

Leap Motion software is available to work with some versions of the Unity Engine.[3][4]

Leap Motion's hand tracking software is closed source. It runs on Windows, and does not run on Linux.

Leap Motion was founded by David Holz.[5]

Leap Motion founded the Project North Star AR headset project.[6]

Leap Motion planned an app store called the Airspace Store.[5]

Product integrations[edit]

SpaceX wrote code to integrate the Leap Motion Controller into Siemens NX.[7]

Leap Motion can be integrated with SolidWorks.[8][9]

History[edit]

The original inspiration behind the Leap device came from the founders' frustration with 3D modeling— something that took 10 seconds in real life that takes 30 minutes with a computer mouse and keyboard.[10]

Leap Motion received funding from Sean O'Sullivan's investment company.[11]
