Microscribe in action

MicroScribe is a series of 3D input devices from Revware.[1][2] Originally, the devices were developed by Immersion Corporation.[3][4]

The devices are generally not used as the primary device for input into a computer system, compared to a mouse, trackpad, or touch screen.

Revware advertises it as a coordinate-measuring machine (CMM).

It was first launched in 1995.[4]
