The Pulfrich effect is a psychophysical phenomenon where lateral motion of an object in the viewer's field of view is interpreted as having a depth component, due to a relative difference in signals between the two eyes. The effect can be caused by placing a dark filter over one eye, due to the eye and visual system processing darker information more slowly.
