Tactile zero point

A tactile zero point is a feature of user interfaces where there is tactility that corresponds to an immutable position in screen space or world space.

Mouse & Monitor

  • Spatial Anchor: The desk surface
  • Tactile Zero Point: The mouse body / click
  • Result: High precision, low fatigue.

Standard VR

  • Spatial Anchor: Virtual floor
  • Tactile Zero Point: None (Air-gestures)
  • Result: "Gorilla arm" fatigue, high error rate.

Puck-Based XR

  • Spatial Anchor: The physical puck
  • Tactile Zero Point: The puck's surface/edges
  • Result: High precision, "blind" navigation.
