Binocular disparity shown with cameras instead of eyes

Binocular disparity is a difference in images seen by two eyes on one person's head. This difference in perspective enables one component of solidity perception and depth perception. It is in many cases the primary enabler of 3D perception, especially in flat-focus VR headsets.

Human eyes are horizontally separated by about 50–75 mm (interpupillary distance) depending on the individual.

The primary difference between the image projected on each retina is a small horizontal offset known as lateral retinal image disparity.[1]
