Louis Rosenberg
Louis Rosenberg is a researcher into augmented reality and virtual reality, 3D input devices, and the founder of Immersion Corporation. He is also a member of the Responsible Metaverse Alliance.[1]
He left in 2002 and founded Outland Research, an early developer of augmented reality technologies, which was acquired by Google in 2011.[2]
Rosenberg did early research on the effect of IPD on depth perception.[3]
Rosenberg did early work in describing that in order for virtual objects to appear in the real world, the real and the virtual need to be spatially aligned in 3D space.[4]
Rosenberg attended Stanford University.[5]
He attended a panel at AWE 2023.[6] He was set to be a speaker for AWE 2025.[7]
Rosenberg was formerly a professor at Cal Polytech.[8][9]
Virtual Fixtures[edit]
Rosenberg developed the Virtual Fixtures prototype system at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.[5]
When Louis Rosenberg had pitched the Virtual Fixtures concept to the Air Force in 1991, the example application was augmented surgery – to enable surgeons to overlay “virtual fixtures” with haptic feedback around the patient that could help them increase their dexterity.[10]
