Quaternions are a way to keep track of rotation. A quaternion is a 4 dimensional structure that keeps track of rotation or orientation in a three-dimensional space.
Some quaternions map on to vectors in 3D space. A pure quaternion is a kind of quaternion that can be mapped to a vector in three dimensional euclidean space.
